Discovery

If you have ever sat in hospital room with a baby gasping for breath then you will do whatever the doctor says to help make them feel better and to prevent it from happening in the future.  When Caroline was little we spent several nights in the hospital and after several episodes she was diagnosed with ‘reactive airway disorder.’  She was too young at the time to call it asthma.  So the allergist and pediatrician put her on a daily steroid inhaler.  Well, she had another bad breathing spell in the Fall of 2011 and they doubled her dose and put her on an even stronger steroid.  This past year has been very difficult and I did not link the two until just recently.  A very long story short, this medicine was making her heart race, her skin crawl, and making her agitated.  She is a sensitive child, but the steroid was making daily living very difficult for our sweet girl.  While at my whit’s end one evening I thought back to one of the nurses flippantly saying ‘wow she’s on 200, that’s a lot for such a little girl.’  The Lord really opened my eyes to this discovery.  Which led me to research via Dr. Google (sorry Cole I know you don’t like that).  The drug company’s website itself said that 5% of the population tend to have this sort of reaction to this medication.  I took her off of it immediately and she said ‘wow mommy my clothes don’t hurt, I feel good.’  I am heart broken that I didn’t make the connection sooner and wasn’t able save my sweet girl a lot of heartache.  Our pediatrician has been so gracious and we are working on other ways to manage her breathing issues.  Currently, Caroline is very upset with her doctor for giving her that medicine that made her feel so ‘icky.’  We are working on eliminating some of the coping mechanisms she was using to deal with the discomfort.  She is now regularly wearing socks, boots, pants, jackets, etc…without a fuss!  Huge praise!  We love our sweet girl and are so thankful that she is feeling better!

All ball!  Clark is very much into playing football, basketball, and monkey in the middle.  He always makes us laugh and his vocabulary is increasingly daily.  He has quite the sense of humor.  He is such a good brother and son.  We love him so much!
